PRO-NOX™ Nitrous Oxide System
While many of our minimally invasive cosmetic treatments don’t require anesthesia, some individuals may still feel anxiety or discomfort during the process. PRO-NOX™ is a pain relief system that uses nitrous oxide to help our patients in Charleston, Mount Pleasant, and Summerville relax during treatment. Nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” has long been utilized to enhance comfort during dental and medical procedures. Now, the team at Plastic Surgery of the Carolinas is pleased to offer the state-of-the-art PRO-NOX™ system for our non-surgical skincare treatments and other cosmetic services.

What is PRO-NOX™?
PRO-NOX™ is an FDA-approved pain and anxiety relief system that can help reduce stress and/or discomfort during your treatment. Patients simply inhale a combination of equal parts oxygen (50 percent O2) and nitrogen (50 percent N2), similar to the “laughing gas” typically used in dental settings. The non-opioid system is monitored by our medical professionals and patient-controlled, requiring that individuals merely inhale the gas through a handheld tube to achieve the desired level of relaxation.
What Will PRO-NOX™ Feel Like?
PRO-NOX™ can make you feel relaxed, light, and calm, similar to how you would feel in the dentist’s chair after receiving nitrous oxide. This should take effect within a few seconds of inhaling the gas, and the sensation should wear off minutes after you start breathing normally. The PRO-NOX™ system is used to relieve mild to moderate anxiety or discomfort in aesthetic practices, hospitals, and birthing centers across the nation, often serving as a safe and effective alternative to general anesthesia or traditional intravenous sedation for cosmetic treatments.
What are the Side Effects of PRO-NOX™?
One of the main benefits of PRO-NOX™ is not only the immediate alleviation of discomfort, but also the rapid recovery with disappearance of its effects immediately upon completion of the procedure or treatment. The feelings caused by the nitrous oxide subside almost immediately after you begin breathing normal air again, allowing you to drive home from your appointment without the risks usually associated with traditional sedation. We will monitor you throughout the entire treatment and review your medical history to help ensure you are a good candidate for PRO-NOX™
How Much Does PRO-NOX™ Cost?
The cost of PRO-NOX™ at our practice will be added to the total cost of your treatment. Our team will make sure you understand these fees before developing your treatment plan so you have all the information to make the best decision about your care. Plastic surgery financing is available through CareCredit® for all of our aesthetic procedures.
In summary, PRO-NOX™ can allow you to undergo your cosmetic treatment with more safety and comfort than ever. If you have questions about the PRO-NOX™ system, please contact Plastic Surgery of the Carolinas so one of our friendly team members can help you.
